The year 1947 was an important one for the Wheatland Church.
It was the 100th anniversary of the Church's founding and the 100th Anniversary
celebration was held. It was also the year the Cottage was built.
Today we know the building as the Cottage, where Sunday School classes are held
and the nursery resides - but it was originally built as a parsonage.
Recently some photographic slides and other information from this time
period were provided by a former member of the church. Please click on the links below for more information.
1. Cottage construction & 100th
Anniversary Celebration.
These slides were taken by D. Glass. Based on information from the 100th
Anniversary booklet, it appears this was Dudley Glass, Jr. who is listed as the
"Sunday School Superintendent".
2. Sunday Bulletin for June 29, 1947 (Day of 100th Anniversary
Celebration)
3. 100th Anniversary booklet
4. Other things going on in the world in 1947
There is additional information scattered about the website that
deals with this time period. A black and white photograph of the church
with a full parking lot in the foreground is from the 100th anniversary and is
available by
clicking here. Information about the day the Cottage's foundation was
poured is available by clicking here
(last paragraph on page). The preacher at the time of the 100th Anniversary was
Eldon Reed, his name is also shown by
clicking here (left column, middle).
One final note, the quality of the slides from 1947 is excellent;
however, the only scanner available was not really designed to scan slides.
When a better scanner becomes available the slides will be re-scanned, the
website updated, and this paragraph removed.
